What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cost Accounting Manager position at OptiPeople Resources?
A growing industrial company is expanding its cost accounting function. They have the systems and scale — they now need someone who can bring structure, accuracy, and discipline to how costs are captured, analyzed, and communicated.
This role is ideal for someone who likes to fix what’s unclear, establish standards, and serve as a reliable partner to operations, supply chain, and logistics.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and maintain cost accounting policies aligned to U.S. GAAP
- Oversee standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance reporting
- Improve capitalization practices, GR/IR accuracy, and tariff tracking
- Validate cost and inventory data in SAP (S/4HANA) and support system improvements
- Provide clear, practical insights to non-accounting stakeholders
- Identify process gaps and recommend solutions that improve efficiency and accuracy
What They’re Looking For
- 5 years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing or distribution
- Strong SAP S/4HANA and Vistex experience
- Ability to operate independently and bring clarity to ambiguous processes
- Solid communication skills — someone who can explain the “why,” not just the numbers
- Curious, detail-oriented, and comfortable pushing work forward without micromanagement
Work Style
- Hybrid: Tues/Thurs one additional onsite day
- Reports to a senior finance leader; potential for broader responsibility as the function grows
- Competitive compensation; open to a more senior candidate if the fit is right
If you’re looking for a role where you can bring order to complexity and build a function with real impact, this is a solid opportunity. Apply confidentially through OptiPeople Resources.
