Power Back Office Analyst
We are seeking a Power Back Office Analyst to support a dynamic energy trading operation. This role is ideal for someone with experience in North American power markets who enjoys combining operational excellence, settlements, reconciliations, data analysis, and process automation in a fast-paced trading environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily back-office operations for physical and financial power transactions across North American markets, including ERCOT, PJM, CAISO, MISO, and SPP.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of trades, positions, settlements, and invoices.
- Manage trade confirmations, invoicing, settlements, and payment processing while ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
- Serve as a primary operational contact for traders, counterparties, brokers, exchanges, and internal stakeholders.
- Investigate and resolve pricing, volume, settlement, and invoicing discrepancies.
- Ensure accurate deal capture and maintenance across trading, settlement, and ISO systems.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements, including Dodd-Frank compliance.
- Build and enhance reporting, reconciliation, and automation tools using SQL, Python, Excel, Power BI, and related technologies.
- Analyze revenue, costs, margins, and settlement variances while identifying trends and operational risks.
- Support Renewable Energy Certificate (REC), Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA), and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) activities.
- Participate in system implementations, process improvements, audits, and special projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Energy, Business, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in power trading operations, settlements, back office, or energy accounting.
- Strong knowledge of North American power markets and energy commodities.
- Advanced skills in SQL, Python, Excel (including VBA and Power Query), and Power BI.
- Experience working with large datasets, automation tools, and data analytics.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and organizational skills.
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven trading environment and effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
