CONTROLLER
Optimize Recruitment Group is partnering with a large, mission-driven organization in Western New York in the search for a Controller to join its finance leadership team. This is a key hire supporting a newly appointed Chief Financial Officer and offers the opportunity to play a critical role in strengthening financial operations, driving accountability, and supporting a complex, multi-entity organization.
REPORTING TO: Director of Fiscal Services (and CFO as needed)
Position Overview
- The Controller will be responsible for overseeing core accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and transactional functions including accounts payable and payroll.
- This role will partner closely with the CFO and Director of Fiscal Services to ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of financial processes across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee general ledger, month-end close, and financial reporting processes
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
- Lead and develop accounting staff, driving accountability and performance
- Oversee accounts payable and payroll functions to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Manage balance sheet reconciliations and internal control processes
- Support annual audit and year-end close processes
- Partner with leadership to improve financial systems, processes, and reporting
- Assist in internal audit initiatives and process improvement efforts
- Provide financial analysis and support to operational leadership
Leadership Scope
- Supervise accounting and transactional staff
- Drive performance, accountability, and process discipline within the team
- Partner with senior leadership on financial operations and improvements
Qualifications
- Masters in Accounting, Business Administration or related field with 2 years relevant experience OR Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with 4 years of relevant experience.
- CPA or progress toward CPA strongly preferred
- 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience in public accounting, nonprofit or healthcare environments preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience leading or mentoring accounting staff

SALARY: Base salary for this direct hire position will be in the $85-88,000 range plus comprehensive benefits package.
