Role Description
The Automation Engineer will design, program, and optimize automated systems for Optima's Vial and Syringe Fill Line systems. Responsibilities include commissioning and testing equipment, troubleshooting electrical and control issues, and ensuring stable, efficient process control on customer sites and in-house. The role involves collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and software engineering teams to integrate automation solutions, prepare technical documentation, and support training for service teams and customers. The Automation Engineer will also contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, implement safety and compliance standards, and support after-sales service and remote diagnostics.
Qualifications
- Responsible for Optima Machinery automation from post-delivery through service life.
- Strong skills in Automation and Process Control.
- Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Background in Electrical Engineering with "hands-on" practical experience in panel layouts, wiring, drive systems, sensors, and safety circuits.
- Hands-on troubleshooting abilities, including root-cause analysis and corrective action.
- Experience with pharmaceutical machinery, manufacturing, or industrial automation.
- Experience with GMP environments, including construction sites, and related safety programs.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical drawings.
- Professional and technical level of reading, writing, and speaking English.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and international teams.
- Working knowledge of relevant safety, quality, and industry standards.
Target Applicant
- 5 yrs Automation field work including change control and virtual machines.
- 5 yrs direct and verifiable syringe and/or vial fill line exp of any manufacturer. But Optima fill line exp is highly preferred.
- Detail your technical exp with Wonderware/InTouch, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Rockwell Motion, B&R Motion, Rockwell Studio500, Beckhoff TwinCAT 3 – PLC Motion, SQL (not MySQL), applicable robotics, PLC, HMI, SCADA. Writing length does not matter; tell us everything.
- Typical starting $50/hr, but based on experience.
- Paid travel to/from client sites throughout the US; travel is >50% of the year. Highest demand in Southwest, Northeast, Southeast, Central Atlantic, and Mid-West.
- Operations Office is in Raleigh but interested applicants can live anywhere.
