Primary Duties: Job Title: Environmental Services Technician
Department: Environmental Services (EVS)
Reports To: Environmental Services Supervisor / Manager
Job Summary:
The Environmental Services Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe environment throughout the hospital. This role directly supports infection prevention, patient safety, and overall hospital operations by performing daily cleaning, disinfection, and waste management tasks in patient care and non–patient care areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Clean, disinfect, and maintain patient rooms, operating rooms, clinics, offices, hallways, and public areas according to hospital and regulatory standards
• Perform terminal cleaning of patient rooms after discharge or transfer
• Properly handle, segregate, and dispose of regular, biohazard, and sharps waste
• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces to support infection control efforts
• Replenish supplies such as soap, paper products, linens, and hand sanitizer
• Follow isolation and precaution protocols (contact, droplet, airborne)
• Operate cleaning equipment including floor scrubbers, buffers, and vacuums
• Report safety hazards, spills, or maintenance issues promptly
• Follow all hospital policies, OSHA guidelines, and infection control procedures
• Interact professionally and respectfully with patients, visitors, and staff
• Maintain accurate logs or documentation as required
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Previous housekeeping or hospital EVS experience preferred but not required
Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, and proper dilution
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good communication and customer service skills
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds
• Ability to push/pull carts and equipment
• Ability to work in environments with cleaning chemicals and bodily fluids

• May include evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts
