What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Test Engineer position at OptiGrid?
The Role
We’re looking for a Systems Test Engineer to help validate and optimize OptiGrid’s fast charging and energy storage systems—from prototype design through full-scale manufacturing. You’ll create and automate test procedures, verify system-level performance, and collaborate with design and production teams to ensure our products meet the highest standards of reliability, safety, and efficiency.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute system-level and subsystem-level test plans for full DC Fast Charger and supporting communication/control hardware and assemblies.
- Design and implement automated and manufacturing-level test procedures using tools like LabVIEW or Python.
- Support prototype and pilot builds, collecting and analyzing data to drive design improvements.
- Define test requirements and acceptance criteria for production test stations.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing to improve test coverage and streamline validation workflows.
- Ensure compliance with UL, IEC, and internal safety standards.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent from an accredited institution
- 3–7 years of experience in system validation or hardware testing, ideally in EVSE, battery energy storage, or power conversion.
- Strong understanding of DC power electronics, BMS systems, and high-voltage safety.
- Experience with test automation, data acquisition, and debug tools (LabVIEW, Python, oscilloscopes, CAN analyzers, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic startup environment
Bonus Skills:
- Test experience preferably in the automotive industry, industrial setting, energy industry
- Knowledge of EV charging standards a plus
- Experience with High Voltage and high current a plus
- Experience with ERP/MES systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar).
- Familiarity with high speed bus hardware and protocols (CANbus, Modbus, Ethernet)
- Familiarity with UL
- 2202, UL 1973, UL 9540, and IEC 61851-23/24 standards.

For this position we are targeting a base pay between $140,000.00 - $160,000.00. Actual compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
