Position Overview:
As a Mechanical Engineering Technician at OptiGrid, you’ll play a key role in assembling, testing, and troubleshooting advanced mechanical and electrical systems for next-generation energy products. Your hands-on expertise will ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability. The ideal candidate has a strong background in various mechanical fabrication equipment/techniques and assembly of electronic systems. Attention to detail isvery important for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assemble & Fabricate: Build and assemble prototype and production mechanical components, wiring harnesses, and assemblies according to specifications and engineering drawings.
- Test & Inspect: Conduct lab tests, functional checks, and mechanical integrity testing on components and products. Organize results into clear test reports.
- Troubleshoot & Repair: Diagnose and resolve manufacturing and quality issues for parts and assemblies, ensuring reliability and performance.
- Support Production: Assist cross-functional teams with new product introduction, including setup, calibration, and validation of equipment and processes.
- Document & Maintain: Prepare and update technical documentation, including work instructions, test procedures, and change orders.
- Collaborate: Work closely with engineers and other technicians to continuously improve assembly processes and product quality.
- Utilize Tools: Operate various software tools and lab equipment to support fabrication, testing, and documentation.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3 years’ experience in mechanical assembly, fabrication, or technician roles (electronics packaging experience a plus).
- Skilled in the use of hand and power tools for assembly, repair, and troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical fabrication in a lab or production environment including cutting, grinding, drilling and welding.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and schematics.
- Basic computer skills, including experience with CAD software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with lab testing and report writing.
- Careful attention to details and focused on doing quality work
Preferred Skills:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 5 years’ experience in electronics packaging or mechanical technician roles.
- Experience with lab instrumentation and measurement tools.
- Skilled in using PTC Creo Parametric CAD software and ASME Y14.5 standards.
- Experience with Arena and Windchill PLM systems
- Proficient in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience assembling and testing Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) products.
