Key Responsibilities
Field service execution (installation, commissioning, break/fix)
- Perform on-site installation support, start-up/commissioning, verification testing, and turnover for OptiCool systems in Tier 3/4 and other mission-critical environments.
- Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, controls, and refrigerant-side issues on OptiCool equipment (RPW/RPC pumps, RDHx doors, refrigerant distribution network, and ODX heat rejection where applicable).
- Execute emergency/break-fix response and restoration activities in accordance with customer site rules, change management, and OptiCool service standards.
- Perform refrigerant best practices: evacuation, dehydration, pressure/leak testing, charging/recovery, and contamination control; document all work performed and readings captured.
- Execute formal preventive maintenance visits; perform standardized inspections/audits, record results, and propose corrective actions.
- Identify pattern failures and recurring issues; provide actionable feedback to Engineering/Manufacturing for design-for-service and reliability improvements.
- Support development of PM kits, field-ready spares recommendations, and service bulletins.
- Deliver customer and partner training (in person and remotely); coach site teams on safe operations and basic troubleshooting.
- Help build and maintain OptiCool's contractor/partner network by reinforcing workmanship and documentation standards and serving as a technical mentor.
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct as an OptiCool representative on customer sites.
- Support factory/startup verification to ensure systems ship ready for the field; assist with troubleshooting and validation testing as needed.
- Assist Engineering with test setups, data collection, and evaluation of new and legacy equipment when required.
- 3 years of progressive field service experience in HVAC/R, mission-critical cooling, or closely related equipment service.
- Demonstrated experience working in mission-critical environments (data centers, telecom, fabs, labs, hospitals, etc.) with strong safety and change-management discipline.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting ability (motors, VFDs, sensors, relays, power distribution basics).
- Ability to read P&IDs/schematics, wiring diagrams, and installation drawings; comfortable capturing and reporting measurements.
- Comfort with controls/BMS interfaces and basic networking concepts
- Excellent customer communication and documentation skills; able to write clear field reports and service summaries.
- Valid driver's license; ability to pass background checks as required by customer sites
- Experience supporting refrigerant-based precision cooling, pumped refrigerant loops, or two-phase thermal systems.
- Experience with copper piping practices (including brazing), pressure testing, and cleanliness practices appropriate for refrigerant systems.
- Demonstrated experience working in mission-critical environments (data centers, telecom, fabs, labs, hospitals, etc.) with strong safety and change-management discipline.
- Experience delivering technical training to customers/partners and mentoring junior technicians.
- Experience with FSM/ticketing tools and asset/service record management.
- NFPA 70E / OSHA 10/30 and/or other relevant safety credentials.
- Frequent travel and work in active data center environments; occasional work in mechanical rooms and on rooftops (ODX locations).
- Ability to lift and move equipment and tools (team lifts as required); ability to stand, kneel, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces.
- Ability to work after-hours/weekends during commissioning windows or emergency response periods.
