Controller

Position Summary

OptiCool is seeking a hands-on Controller to manage all accounting and financial functions for the company. This is a standalone position with no accounting staff, requiring an individual who is comfortable performing day-to-day accounting activities while overseeing financial reporting, planning, and controls.

The Controller will be responsible for the full accounting cycle, ensuring accurate financial records, timely reporting, effective cash management, and compliance with applicable accounting standards. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, self-sufficient, and capable of working independently while partnering with company leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Perform the complete monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare financial statements.
• Manage cash flow, banking activities, working capital, and cash forecasts.
• Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and reporting to management.
• Maintain inventory accounting, product costing, cost of goods sold, and manufacturing variance analysis.
• Manage fixed assets, depreciation, accruals, prepaid expenses, and account reconciliations.
• Coordinate payroll processing and related accounting, as well as sales tax, income tax, and other compliance requirements with external providers as appropriate.
• Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and requests from outside accountants and other advisors.
• Establish and maintain appropriate internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, financial systems, and reporting accuracy.
• Provide financial insight to leadership regarding profitability, operating expenses, and business performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a Controller or senior accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting.
• Manufacturing experience, including inventory and cost accounting, strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with accounting software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to independently manage all accounting responsibilities without direct staff support at this time.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• High level of integrity, accountability, attention to detail, and the ability to meet deadlines.

A CPA designation is preferred but not required.

The Controller will maintain accurate and timely financial records, ensure a smooth monthly close, provide reliable cash flow and financial reporting, maintain strong financial controls, and give leadership the information needed to make sound business decisions.
