What are the responsibilities and job description for the Optical Route Sales Associates + Apprentice Optician position at Optician Recruiter?
The Optician Recruiter is currently hiring Route Sales Associates in the East Bay, while also training candidates to become apprentice opticians to work with eye doctors within our optical network.
We hire you for the route side
Eye doctors on our routes may hire you for the optician (hourly) side
What You’ll Be Doing
️ Route Sales (Hired by Us)
- Visit local optical and optometry offices on a structured route
- Introduce optical products and services
- Build relationships with doctors and office staff
- Maintain accounts, follow up, and support offices on your route
Apprentice Optician Opportunities (Hired by Doctors)
As you train, you’ll be positioned for part-time or full-time opportunities inside optical offices.
Important: These roles are hired directly by the doctors, not by us.
In those roles, you’ll assist with:
- Adjusting Eyewear
Aligning frames, tightening screws, improving comfort and fit - Frame Fittings & Customer Assistance
Helping patients select frames and ensuring proper sizing - Taking Basic Measurements
Learning pupillary distance (PD) and other entry-level optical measurements - Lens & Frame Handling
Understanding lens types, coatings, and frame materials - Minor Repairs
Replacing screws, nose pads, and performing basic adjustments - Supporting Optical Staff
Assisting opticians and office teams with daily operations
No experience required — we train you step-by-step.
Training Included (No Tuition)
Through our nationwide nonprofit initiative, we provide:
- Structured, step-by-step optician training
- Real-world exposure to optical offices
- Hands-on skill development while working
- Ongoing mentorship and job placement guidance
Many optician programs cost $10,000–$20,000
