Repair & Restoration Specialist
Basic Function
The Repair and Restoration Specialist is responsible for diagnosing, reworking, and restoring non-conforming or failed fiber optic cable assemblies to meet industry standards and customer specifications. This role combines precise manual craftsmanship with technical diagnostic skills to salvage high-value cable assemblies

Education: Associate Technical Degree or relevant work experience
Experience: 2–4 years of experience in fiber optic cable assembly manufacturing, with a specific focus on termination, polishing, and testing. Prior rework experience is highly preferred.

This role combines precise manual craftsmanship with technical diagnostic skills to salvage high-value cable assemblies
Significant Responsibilities
Performs specific job responsibilities:
- Diagnostics & Failure Analysis: Inspect failed or nonconforming fiber optic assemblies – including single-mode, multimode, multi-fiber/MTP/MPO, ruggedized fiber optic connectors including expanded-beam, SMPTE and Hybrid (Fiber & Electric)—to determine the root cause of the failure.
- Optical Testing: Utilize specialized test equipment—including Visual Fault Locators (VFL), Optical Time-Domain Reflectometry (OTDR) and Insertion Loss (IL) / Return Loss (RL) meters to evaluate cable assemblies
- Repair Estimation: Provide sales repair estimates in a timely manner
- Repair Instructions: Provide detailed rework procedure and BOM’s for production to complete the repair
- Component Salvage: Safely disassemble ruggedized housings, back-shells, and complex multi-pin connectors to salvage high-cost components from scrap assemblies.
- Documentation & Quality Tracking: Accurately log rework actions, failure modes, and test results to help engineering identify recurring trends.
- Rework & Production Support: Assist production with terminating, polishing, optical testing & interferometry

- Managerial: None.
- Communication: Communicate technical data and requirements to cross-functional teams.
- Confidentiality: All documentation and paperwork are confidential to OCC.
- Financial: Must require manager’s approval before committing to purchases. Respond to the Finance team’s request for information in a timely and accurate manner
- Compliance: Follows SOX, ISO, military standards and safety policies and procedures.
- Travel: None

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
- Excellent computer skills required with familiarity and skill in software packages such as Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proficiency with fiber-optic test equipment (OTDR, Interferometers, Visual Fault Locators)
- Possess an excellent mechanical aptitude with knowledge of fiber optic cable and connector design and its application to production processes
- Ability to understand and implement Quality procedures
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required with the demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly and concisely
