Job Title: Quality Control Technician - CWI / UT Level II

Location: Tigard, OR

Pay: DOE

Schedule: Day Shift Monday-Thursday 6am-4:30pm

We are a nationally recognized AISC-certified structural steel fabricator specializing in complex bridge and building projects. Our work spans AWS D1.1, D1.5, and D1.8 codes and includes fracture critical fabrication for DOT and large infrastructure clients. What You’ll Do:

This position is ideal for a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with UT Level II credentials and experience in structural or bridge fabrication. The QC Technician will perform inspection and testing of welded assemblies, review documentation for conformance to AWS, AISC, and DOT specifications, and support production in maintaining code compliance and quality standards.

The QC Technician will report directly to the QC Supervisor and work closely with fabrication, welding, and project management teams. Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform in-process, final, and visual inspections of weldments in accordance with AWS D1.1, D1.5, and D1.8.
  • Conduct Ultrasonic Testing (UT Level II); Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is a plus.
  • Verify materials, weld joint preparations, and WPS compliance per project requirements.
  • Review and interpret shop drawings, specifications, and special provisions from DOT and other clients.
  • Document inspection results, maintain traceable records, and identify NCRs.
  • Assist in welder performance qualification and maintain associated records.
  • Support continuous improvement of QC processes and adherence to AISC Quality Management System requirements.
  • Participate in project-specific hold points, audits, and internal surveillance.

What You Need to Have:

  • Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential (required).
  • UT Level II certification in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A (required).
  • MT Level II certification (preferred but not required).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in AWS D1.5 Bridge inspection.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS D1.5, D1.1, D1.8, AISC 207, ASTM, and DOT specifications
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld symbols, and specifications.
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Commitment to safety and quality in all aspects of work
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. and able to pass a background and drug screening.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with ODOT, Caltrans, or WSDOT project workflows.
  • Experience with digital or Excel-based QA tracking tools.
  • Exposure to coating inspection and SSPC standards is a plus.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
