JOB TITLE: Mechanic
REPORTS TO: Fleet Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
SUMMARY
The Mechanic is responsible for performing tasks to maintain company equipment and vehicles. The Mechanic’s tasks are performed in a repair shop, equipment yard, or in the field at customer sites, roadside, or other environments.
- Vocational/technical school diploma or certificate, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A valid driver’s license, good driving record, and the ability to drive company vehicles
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card
- Ability to communicate professionally and effectively via verbal, written, and digital methods
- Able to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and/or vehicles issues using industry-standard methods
- Ability to collect, track, and analyze many different data points
- Extensive knowledge of all aspects of vehicle and equipment repair
- Excellent mechanical repair skills
- Proficient in metal working (welding, cutting, fabricating)
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read service and repair manuals and schematics
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines related to operational needs
- Proficient with computer diagnostic equipment and software (PM software programs, Excel, Word, email, etc.)
- Must possess own basic tools
- Two or more years of experience in a repair/service environment
- Commercial Class A-CDL driver’s license
- ASE, Annual Federal Inspection, and/or other industry certification
- Must have the ability to sit, kneel, bend, squat, stand, or walk for 8-10 hours a day
- Must have the ability to frequently lift, push, pull, or move 50 pounds or more
- Must have the ability to travel 30% - 50% by regular and/or CDL-licensed vehicle, with overnight travel throughout territory, as needed
- Must have the ability to withstand exposure to various weather conditions while completing work assignments (rain, heat, humidity, sun, etc.)
- Must have the ability to work around water and walk, stand, and move through diverse types of terrain such as uneven ground and sloped embankments
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary

- Maintain on-road and off-road assets, which may include a company’s fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, semi-trucks/trailers, mowers, skid steers, excavators, other motor vehicles, and spray equipment
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment
- Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems such as brakes, belts, water pumps, and other mechanical parts
- Plan and establish timetable to complete repairs and maintenance
- Visit job sites for in-field repairs and inspections
- Test drive vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation
- Assist in custom builds and perform routine and preventative maintenance of various existing and new equipment including fabrication of specialized equipment using various tools such as saws, welders, grinders, drills, etc.
- Assist in the ordering and organization of parts and supplies
- Adhere to safety procedures including conforming to all OSHA standards and properly using personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Recognize and report any hazardous conditions or behaviors and defective equipment
- Operate company-vehicle safely
- Confer with supervisors to make decisions
- Participate in company meetings, trainings, and certification programs
- Adhere to company policies and procedures
- Communicate with management and technicians to schedule maintenance and report status of maintenance
- Perform other duties as assigned
