Job Summary:

The Scrap Yard Assistant supports daily yard operations by assisting with the processing, sorting, loading, and organization of scrap metal materials. This position helps maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment while ensuring materials are handled properly and customers are assisted as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with unloading and loading scrap materials from customer vehicles and company trucks
• Sort scrap metal by type and grade as directed
• Prepare materials for processing (cutting, stacking, banding, or staging)
• Assist equipment operators and yard personnel as needed
• Maintain organization of yard inventory and storage areas
• Keep yard clean and free of debris to maintain safety standards
• Direct customers to proper unloading areas
• Follow company safety policies and wear required PPE at all times
• Perform general labor duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Previous experience in scrap, recycling, construction, or industrial environment preferred
• Basic knowledge of scrap metal types is a plus
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
• Strong attention to safety

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Frequently lift 50 pounds
• Stand, walk, bend, twist, and climb throughout the workday
• Ability to work around heavy equipment and moving machinery

Work Environment:

• Outdoor scrap yard environment
• Exposure to dust, noise, sharp materials, and heavy equipment
• Non-climate-controlled setting
