What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Wall Pipe Coating Removal Technician/Loader Operator position at OPS SALES COMPANY?
The Heavy Wall Pipe Coating Removal Technician is responsible for safely and efficiently removing coatings from heavy wall, large-diameter pipe. This position involves operating specialized equipment to strip protective coatings in preparation for inspection, repair, welding, or recoating. Work is performed in an industrial shop environment and may involve exposure to dust, noise, and varying temperatures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate coating removal equipment such as mechanical grinders, needle scalers, chippers, torch removal equipment, and other stripping tools
- Remove external coatings including epoxy, coal tar, fusion bonded epoxy (FBE), and other protective materials
- Prepare pipe surfaces for welding, fabrication, inspection, or recoating
- Inspect pipe surfaces after coating removal to ensure proper cleanliness and surface profile
- Maintain consistent production output while meeting quality standards
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper use of PPE
- Assist with loading, positioning, and securing heavy wall pipe as needed
- Perform routine equipment maintenance and report mechanical issues
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Using loader to move pipe to required work areas.
Perform other general labor duties as assigned
- Previous experience in industrial surface preparation, sandblasting, grinding, torch operation, or coating removal preferred
- Experience working with heavy wall, large-diameter pipe strongly preferred
- Ability to safely operate power tools and torch equipment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work for extended periods
- Comfortable working in a non-climate-controlled shop environment
- Ability to work around dust, debris, sparks, and industrial noise
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Industrial pipe fabrication and processing facility
- Shop is not climate controlled
- Use of respirators, face shields, and flame-resistant protective equipment may be required
- Overtime may be required based on production demands
- Saturday availability is preferred
