JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Medical Director/Pediatrician
Part-Time: 37.5 hours/week
Reports To: Executive Director
Position Summary: To deliver high quality, efficient and appropriate medical care to Children’s Clinic patients and to provide medical leadership and guidance for medical providers and clinic staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide appropriate patient care services including examination, diagnosis, treatment and/or referrals according to established pediatric standards and protocols.
- Establish formal collaborative relationships with physicians, staff and clinic nurse practitioners; be available for consultation during clinic hours. Obtain physician consultation back-up as needed.
- Work with medical staff, clinic director and executive director to develop, review and revise agency clinical/medical standards including standing orders, emergency procedures, protocols, medical staff policies, patient education materials and clinic manuals.
- Serve as coach/mentor/trainer to providers, giving guidance in best practices, troubleshooting of medical services and operations issues.
- Monitor quality and appropriateness of medical care.
- Oversee documentation and care planning.
- Participate with the Executive Director and Clinic Director in hiring and training new medical and clinical staff as well as delivering routine performance appraisals and feedback and arranging periodic in-service training.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of the Pediatric practice budget.
- Provide leadership for quality assurance and HIPAA standards.
- Support the development of grant applications as requested.
- Keep abreast of current literature pertinent to clinical services, apprising the Executive Director of new developments in technology or health care delivery as appropriate.
- Lead a minimum of four medical staff meetings per year; Participate in monthly Executive Staff meetings. Be available for Infant Welfare Society meetings as needed.
- Participate in the development and implementation of new programs, which may include participation in preparation of grant proposals involving medical services.
- Collaborate with the Children’s Clinic Oral Health Director, Clinic Director, and Behavioral Health Director to optimize the appropriate integration of care.
- Ensures compliance with standards, laws, and regulations as created by regulatory and accrediting organizations such as: BPHC, JCAHO, CLIA, OSHA, State and Federal Governments, etc.
- Maintain the spirit of teamwork in the effort to provide a caring respectful environment for the patient, families and clinic staff.
- Responsible for performing other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Ability to successfully interact with all levels of personnel and public. Knowledge of outpatient ambulatory clinic management or experience in public health is desirable.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Board certified in Pediatrics with current Illinois license. One to three years post-residency training or experience in ambulatory medical care. Ideally have experience working with underserved populations.
