Job Purpose

Provide quality medical care for the clients of Opportunity Living. Provide supervision, leadership, and training for nursing and other assigned staff to ensure all standards for documentation, client care and needs are being met.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Health Services in overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate nursing staff, including Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Medication Aides (CMAs.), and Healthcare Coordinator.
  • Provide a monthly working schedule and "on-call" schedule for nurses.
  • Evaluate and recommend appropriate staff for the Certified Medication Aide (CMA) course.
  • Participate in recruitment, training, and orientation of nursing staff.
  • Monitor patient care plans, assess patient needs, and coordinate care to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Implement quality assurance programs and ensure nursing staff adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Assist in managing the budget and resources for the nursing department.
  • Address and resolve patient and family concerns or complaints related to nursing care.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of patient care policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Serve as the acting Director of Health Services in their absence.
  • Required to work the floor filling in as needed and be back up on call.
  • Ensure nursing practices comply with all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Complete monthly review of CMA medication administrations.
  • Provide training for the nursing staff and in-service training to other Opportunity Living staff through staff orientation, Direct Support Professional Training (DSPT), Certified Medication Aide Course, and other educational settings when deemed necessary.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with physicians and medical facilities involved in the treatment of Opportunity Living clients
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for assigned staff and provide input to supervisors for CMA/staff evaluations.
  • Provide conflict mediation by prompt intervention, followed by training, coaching, or counseling if needed.
  • Provide regular communication, feedback, and information sharing with staff.
  • Assist in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the organization by performing all duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
  • Maintain professional competency by participating in continuing education, in-services, and personal growth experiences.
  • Protect the privacy of clients and staff by maintaining confidentiality of records and personal information and follow all policies and procedures under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Maintain flexibility of schedules to provide adequate coverage.
  • Assist in ensuring the effective and efficient operation of the organization by performing all duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
  • Maintain professional competency by participating in continuing education, in-services, and personal growth experiences.
  • Protect the privacy of clients and staff by maintaining confidentiality of records and personal information and follow all policies and procedures under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Qualifications

  • Licensed registered nurse (RN) in the state of Iowa and a minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory, leadership or counseling role.
  • Must have good organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to lead a team.
  • Training and/or experience in developmental disabilities preferred.
  • Must have a sincere respect for and desire to work with persons with disabilities.
  • Commitment to Opportunity Living's Mission and Vision.
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
  • Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks.
  • Clear tuberculosis screening.
  • Ability to pass and maintain required trainings such as CPR/First Aid, Dependent Adult/Child Abuse, and behavior management, or other training as assigned per specific job duties.

Works in a changing environment that adjusts to the needs of the individuals being serviced. The environment may be fast-paced with interruptions, distractions and deadlines. Must be flexible and be able to adjust to changing needs or activities. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must be able to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. Specific vision required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Salary : $80,000 - $120,000
