This is a dual role supporting as a Medication Technician as well as an Anesthesia Technician. This is a part-time 32-36 hour a week position.
JOB SUMMARY: The Med Tech prepares, stocks, and dispenses medications under the supervision of a licensed professional as well as assists the anesthesia team with maintaining the necessary equipment and supplies within a surgical day.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION:
Education:
· High School diploma or GED required.
· Certification as a pharmacy technician preferred
Qualifications:
· A minimum of two years of experience using sterilization techniques in an operating room preferred.
· A minimum of one year of experience as an anesthesia tech is preferred.
· Previous experience with medication preparation and handling
· Previous experience with automated dispensing cabinets
· Awareness of state and federal laws surrounding mediation handling
· Must be able to plan and organize work.
· Must have basic computer skills.
· Must have professional and effective communication skills.
· Assumes responsibility for own personal continuing education and developmental needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Consults operating room schedule to determine equipment needs for special procedures and prepares operating room accordingly.
· Maintains, calibrates and troubleshoots all anesthesia department equipment, according to instructions and protocols of equipment manuals.
· Stocks anesthesia supplies and drugs in all operating rooms.
· Cleans and disinfects anesthesia equipment after use.
· Maintains adequate supply of medical oxygen, nitrous oxide and air in tanks.
· Practices good sterile techniques. Assists with sterile procedures.
· Assists with management of drug stock including but not limited to, shelving new drug stock with proper rotation of items, arranging stock and organizing storage areas, documenting the need for and ordering items and maintaining proper documentation and record keeping
· Accurately prepares medications prior to dispensing
· Delivers medications to patient care areas within an appropriate time frame
· Performs tasks involved with the preparation and/or labeling of IV admixtures and associated record keeping
· Packages dry orals, liquid orals and small volume injectables in unit-dose containers
· Assists in ensure drug storage locations are maintained in an appropriate manner – ex. Floorstock, automated dispensing cabinets, crash carts etc.
· Ensures that drug items are billed to various areas or patients
· Assists in ensuring medication inventory is maintained at appropriate levels in a cost-conscious manner to promote availability of items included in the formulary
· Ensures that expired medications are removed from inventory and stored properly
· Perform audits on medication administrations, dispenses and/or inventory
