The Southwest Florida Water Management District (District), a leader in protecting Florida's water resources, is seeking an Engineer in support of the Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) Program. This position will work on a wide variety of projects related to natural systems restoration and water quality improvements aimed at protecting and restoring our most valuable natural resources. The duties assigned to the selected candidate depend on experience level and may include field reconnaissance, construction administration, hydraulic/hydrologic model review, stormwater retrofit design, plans and specifications review, contract management, negotiations, working with stakeholders, project tracking, preparing budgets, and cost tracking.

Starting Compensation: 

Engineer 1: $53,589.00 - $72,931.50
Engineer 2: $61,254.00 - $84,422.50

Engineer 3: $66,180.00 - $91,203.50
Engineer 4: $71,460.00 - $98,476.00
Engineer 5: $77,159.00 - $106,342.00

The starting salary ranges are included for the Engineer profile which reflects the minimum to approximately 50% of the respective pay grades. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.

Essential Functions

  • Conducts technical review of studies, engineering designs, hydrologic & hydraulic (H&H) models, and construction documents supporting natural systems restoration and water quality improvement projects. 
  • Manages/Supports SWIM District Initiatives, ensuring alignment with project objectives, District priorities, and compliance with District procedures and policies.
  • Negotiates scopes of work and associated professional service fees with consultants and partners.
  • Leads project and technical presentations to internal teams, governing bodies, and external stakeholders
  • Provides technical guidance, mentorship, and engineering practice support to staff engineers and scientists.

Additional Details

This position is typically scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, out of the Tampa, FL office. Remote work opportunities may be available up to 4 days per week. This position is eligible for compensatory time for hours worked over 40 hours, in a week.

Yes. Some travel, using District vehicle, within District's coverage area.
