Training Officer Position Overview

Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) is seeking a Training Officer for the Division of Employer & Innovation Services (EIS). This role develops and leads virtual and in‑person trainings, plans and schedules webinars, prepares materials, and ensures accessibility and branding standards.

Duties include writing scripts, designing slides, creating guides, promoting events, handling registrations, tracking attendance, and publishing resources. The role oversees training compliance and credentialing, corrects captions, issues certificates, responds to participant questions, analyzes feedback, and reviews resource guides. Additional tasks involve managing contact lists, fulfilling accommodation requests, maintaining shared files, coordinating records, inventory, and purchases.

Candidates should have instructional design knowledge, strong computer skills especially in presentation, design, and communication tools, attention to detail, effective communication, ability to organize and prioritize work, maintain accurate records, handle sensitive inquiries, and collaborate effectively.

This role supports OOD’s mission by delivering quality training and fostering statewide partnerships.

Division Of Employer & Innovation Services (EIS) Overview

Division of Employer and Innovation Services (EIS) at Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities (OOD) partners with employers to promote hiring individuals with disabilities and consults with businesses, communities, venues, and attractions to help them meet their accessibility and inclusion goals. In addition, EIS supports the agency in implementing process improvements for better customer service, manages data systems, and conducts research to improve our ability to meet the needs of Ohioans who could benefit from our services.

Pay Information

Starting salary will be step 1, subject to law or union contract requirements. New hires advance to the next step in the range after 6 months and annually thereafter. There are cost of living increases to these rates each year and additional longevity supplements begin after 5 years. The current wage progression for this position is in the table below.

Location Requirements

Our roles are primarily in-office to encourage collaboration and connection, however some locations may have adjusted on-site requirements based on space availability at this time. Reporting details will be provided by the supervisor before the start date. Employees must reside at a location that allows for reasonable response time to workplace reporting requirements.

Daytime travel within Ohio may be required. The selected candidate must provide own transportation or, in order to operate a state vehicle, must have a valid driver’s license.

This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. The selection process consists of an online assessment and a remote structured interview. All communications are sent via email. Candidates should make sure their account contains an email address that is checked regularly including checking junk and/or spam.

Background Check

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Criminal convictions do not necessarily preclude an applicant from consideration for a position. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration.

6 courses in human resources, education, sociology or psychology or 18 months' experience in preparing informational or instructional programs AND 18 months' training or 18 months' experience in public speaking or effective communications skills AND 3 months' training or 3 months' experience in operating audio visual equipment.

Or equivalent of education and/or experience per Minimum Class Qualifications noted above.
