JOB TITLE: OPERATIONS ENGINEER
We are seeking an engineer to conduct detailed operational assessments and analysis to identify optimization opportunities, cost reduction initiatives, and operational improvements across oil and gas assets. This role will support the Operations team in technical evaluation activities and transition to operational project support as assessments progress to implementation phase. Development of analytical capabilities while contributing to strategic initiatives will ensure successful operational project delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Assessment and Analysis: Conduct comprehensive operational assessments of oil and gas assets, analyzing current operational practices, maintenance strategies, organizational structures, and cost profiles. Compare operations against industry benchmarks and Petrofac's operational standards to identify improvement opportunities.
Cost Optimization Identification: Perform detailed analysis of operational expenditure, maintenance costs, manning levels, and operational efficiency metrics. Develop recommendations for cost reduction while maintaining operational integrity and safety standards.
Technical Data Analysis: Analyze operational data, production performance, maintenance records, and cost information to identify trends, inefficiencies, and optimization opportunities. Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.
Operations Readiness Support: Support operational readiness activities for potential operations transitions, including assessment of existing operational procedures, maintenance programs, organizational capabilities, and transition requirements.
Operational Project Support: Transition to supporting operational projects that emerge from assessment activities, including coordination of implementation activities, technical reviews, and progress monitoring under senior guidance.
Day-to-Day Operations Support: Participate in routine operational support activities including Management of Change (MOC) reviews, production deferment assessments, operational override reviews, risk assessment reviews, and maintenance planning meetings.
Technical Assurance Activities: Support technical assurance activities including HAZOP participation, risk assessment reviews, technical procedure reviews, and small engineering change projects as required.
Documentation and Reporting: Prepare high-quality technical reports, analysis summaries, and recommendations with strong attention to detail and analytical rigor. Maintain comprehensive documentation of assessment activities and findings.
Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders as required, maintaining professional standards and appropriate confidentiality in all interactions.
Commercial Awareness Development: Develop understanding of operational cost drivers, commercial considerations, and factors influencing operational decision-making across different operator types and business models.
Professional Development: Actively pursue development opportunities to build analytical capabilities, operational knowledge, and leadership skills with potential progression to Assistant Operations Manager or Technical Assurance Lead roles.

Perth office-based role with minimal travel requirements. Standard office environment with occasional exposure to technical facilities as required for assessment activities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Recognised Chemical/Mechanical/Petroleum Engineering Degree or relevant trade or industry recognised qualifications
- 5-8 years' experience in Oil and Gas upstream operations, including exposure to operational optimization, cost management, maintenance strategies, or operational analysis activities
- Exposure to operational cost optimization initiatives
- Understanding of different operator models (IOC, NOC, Independent)
- Knowledge of late-life asset operations and associated challenges with operations, maintenance & integrity planning & execution
- Offshore working environment experience
- Understanding of regional regulatory requirements preferred but not essential
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail
- Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) with strong data analysis capabilities\
- Understanding of operational cost structures and optimization principles
- Knowledge of maintenance strategies and asset integrity principles
- Familiarity with operational procedures, risk management, and industry standards
- Understanding of OPEX, ABEX and CAPEX benchmarking and budgets
