The BAS Operations Manager is responsible for daily operational leadership, coordination, and execution oversight of all active Building Automation System (BAS) and controls projects. This role manages field Project Managers and supports Site Supervisors and field teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, profitably, on schedule, and in alignment with company standards.
This is an operations leadership role, not a sales role nor administrative coordinator role. The position is accountable for project execution discipline, labor coordination, PM accountability, schedule alignment, operational reporting, issue escalation, and communication between field operations, engineering, procurement, finance, and executive leadership.

Operations Leadership
Salary range: $105,000–$145,000 base salary, depending on BAS technical depth, project operations leadership experience, federal/commercial project exposure, and number of PMs/field teams managed.

Primary Responsibilities
Operations Leadership
- Lead daily BAS project operations across multiple Project Managers and active job sites.
- Create consistency in project execution, communication, scheduling, manpower planning, and reporting.
- Run recurring operations meetings with Project Managers and field leadership.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and drive corrective action before issues become executive-level escalations.
- Support workforce planning and organizational scaling for BAS field operations.
- Directly manage and mentor BAS Project Managers responsible for construction, retrofit, and controls projects.
- Review weekly project health, including labor performance, schedule status, procurement status, RFIs, submittals, change orders, billing status, cost-to-complete, and operational risks.
- Ensure Project Managers maintain accurate project data in the company ERP/project management systems.
- Support PMs with customer escalations, manpower conflicts, schedule conflicts, and project recovery planning.
- Validate project startup, turnover, execution, commissioning, closeout, and documentation discipline.
- Coordinate manpower allocation across BAS projects based on schedule, labor availability, project priority, and customer commitments.
- Work with Site Supervisors and field leads to confirm crews have materials, tools, equipment, access, badging, safety documentation, and technical support.
- Balance workload across active construction, retrofit, and federal/commercial project demands.
- Serve as first operational escalation point for field execution issues.
- Partner with Finance and leadership on project forecasting, revenue projections, labor utilization, cost control, and margin protection.
- Review project financial performance and cost-to-complete updates with PMs on a weekly cadence.
- Drive forecasting discipline and improve visibility into project risk before month-end or closeout.
- Track operational KPIs including schedule adherence, labor efficiency, change order status, closeout completion, and project margin risk.
- Enforce company project execution standards, startup procedures, QA/QC workflows, and closeout requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering, programming, commissioning, procurement, and field teams to reduce rework and missed scope.
- Support development and improvement of BAS operational SOPs, project checklists, and documentation standards.
- Ensure projects are executed in a manner that protects schedule, profitability, customer relationships, and company risk position.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Procurement, Logistics, HR, Finance, Service Operations, and executive leadership as needed.
- Participate in customer meetings, project reviews, and recovery meetings when operational support is required.
- Provide leadership with clear operational updates, risk summaries, and recommended action plans.
- 7 years of experience in Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, mechanical construction, controls integration, or related building systems operations.
- 3 years of leadership experience managing Project Managers, field operations, site supervisors, or construction operations teams.
- Strong understanding of BAS controls, HVAC operations, mechanical systems, construction project execution, and commercial/federal project environments.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and field teams.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, controls drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, and scopes of work.
- Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience with ERP/project management tools such as Sage Intacct, Sage Construction Management, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, Procore, or similar systems preferred.
- Experience supporting federal projects, secure facilities, airport projects, or prevailing wage environments.
- Experience with BAS commissioning, startup, controls integration, and closeout documentation.
- OSHA 30 preferred.
- PMP certification preferred but not required.
