Essential Functions
- Management & supervision of Service Department personnel
- Communicate with customers to schedule and dispatch field service technicians.
- Supervise the opening and closing of work orders for control of each shop and field job
- Maintain and monitor detailed records of time and performance of Service employees
- Monitor and schedule preventative maintenance of rental equipment
- Order and maintain inventory of shop tools and supplies
- Recruit, interview and hire qualified service department personnel
- Act as site safety supervisor in conjunction with Branch Manager
- Monitor service technician training and schedule on and off-site training as required
- Ensure that all customer satisfaction needs are met in accordance with company policy
- Stay current on product improvement programs from manufacturers
- Report shop goals, objectives and achievements to District Service Manager
- Track department profitability and technician efficiency
- Ensure technicians operating according to safety policies and procedures
- High School Diploma
- 2-year certificate from technical school or 5 years of related service management experience in heavy equipment industry
- PC proficiency required, particularly in MS Office applications.
- Extensive Equipment (OEM product) and maintenance knowledge
- Valid Driver’s License
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent Customer Service skills
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage a team of service and field technicians
- Combination of office, shop, and yard settings.
- Regular exposure to diesel engines, heavy equipment, and mechanical tools.
- Noise levels may be high at times; ear protection may be required.
- Exposure to diesel fumes, lubricants, and other shop-related chemicals.
- Occasional lifting, bending, and walking throughout the facility.
- Must frequently wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when in the shop or yard.
- Variable temperatures depending on season and location (indoor/outdoor exposure).
- Fast-paced, hands-on environment requiring strong leadership and adaptability.
- Standard business hours with occasional extended hours or weekend oversight as needed.
- Collaboration with technicians, service advisors, rental staff, and customers.
- Occasional field location visits and overnight stays
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the office, shop, and yard areas.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, or crouch occasionally to inspect equipment or interact with technicians in shop settings.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds occasionally, such as files, parts, or equipment manuals.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and using office equipment.
- Visual and auditory ability required to read documents, use computer screens, and communicate effectively in noisy environments.
- Occasional exposure to outdoor elements including heat, cold, wind, and rain while walking through the yard or checking on equipment.
- Must be able to safely navigate uneven surfaces and work around heavy machinery or vehicles in operation.
- May be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, steel-toe boots, gloves, or hearing protection when in shop or yard areas.
