Ophthalmic Assistant / Technician

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Ophthalmic Assistant / Technician to join our dynamic eye care team. Duties

• Assist with ophthalmic patient examinations, including measuring vital signs, conducting eye refractions, and performing tonometry tests to assess intraocular pressure.
• Operate ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment such as A-scan biometry and other ocular imaging devices to gather precise measurements for diagnosis and treatment planning.
• Prepare patients for examinations by taking comprehensive intake histories, explaining procedures clearly, and maintaining a welcoming environment.
• Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR) systems efficiently, ensuring accurate documentation of patient information, clinical notes, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
• Maintain strict aseptic techniques during procedures to prevent infection and ensure patient safety during examinations and treatments.
• Support ophthalmologists during procedures by handling medical equipment operation and assisting with clinical tasks requiring detailed anatomy knowledge of the eye and physiology.
• Uphold patient confidentiality at all times while providing direct patient care, demonstrating excellent patient service skills in a fast-paced medical office setting.

Requirements

• Prior experience working in a medical office or ophthalmology practice is highly preferred; familiarity with medical terminology and ophthalmic procedures is essential.
• Knowledge of ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment, eye refraction techniques, tonometry, and A-scan biometry is required.
• Strong understanding of anatomy and physiology related to the eye to support accurate assessments and patient education.
• Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems for managing electronic health records efficiently and securely.
• Ability to perform intake assessments, take vital signs accurately, and follow clinical confidentiality policies diligently.
• Excellent communication skills for providing outstanding patient service and explaining procedures clearly.
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality standards.
• Ability to operate medical equipment safely while adhering to aseptic techniques during all clinical procedures.

Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
