Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region (OCCR) located in upstate New York provides a comprehensive model of eye care with experienced specialists, ophthalmologists, optometrists, and opticians providing patient-centered eye expertise in Albany, Clifton Park, Schenectady, Schodack, and Troy. Whether a patient is visiting us for a routine visit, to treat a common eye condition or has a more serious eye disorder, we endeavor to provide the highest standard of comprehensive eye care services with excellence and compassion that will consistently exceed expectations. Position Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner will perform comprehensive preoperative history and physical examinations to ensure patients are medically optimized for surgery, administer LumiTherapy light treatments in accordance with established protocols, and participate in the postoperative care of surgical patients, in collaboration with ophthalmologists. The Nurse Practitioner will promote positive patient outcomes and ensure clinical and regulatory compliance supporting the practice’s commitment to exceptional patient care.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform Valeda Light Therapy treatment (training provided).
  • Perform LAL treatments (training provided).
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, medical histories, and physical examinations.
  • Perform pre-operative physical evaluations, vital sign monitoring, and patient education.
  • Educate and counsel patients on eye health maintenance, disease prevention, and individualized care plans.
  • Monitor post-operative patients, assess recovery progress, and coordinate safe discharge planning in collaboration with peers.
  • Collaborate closely with ophthalmologists, clinical staff, and administrative teams to ensure efficient patient care and office operations.
  • Document patient encounters accurately and maintain compliance with practice policies, clinical guidelines, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Follow practice processes and procedures as well as safety protocols.
  • Participate in practice and/or physician meetings as needed/required.
  • Remain in compliance with all federal and state laws and regulations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current and unrestricted NY State license.
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing.
  • Specialty certification from a recognized certifying body.
  • Experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
  • Strong clinical judgement and decision-making skills.
  • Dedication to providing high-quality patient care by providing an exceptional patient experience through anticipating patient needs, taking action, and striving to exceed expectations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
  • Articulate professionalism in manner and presentation.
  • Exceptional listening skills.
  • Ability to effectively and respectfully communicate with patients, providers, clinical staff, colleagues, managers and others.
  • Familiarity with electronic medical record systems; proficiency with medical coding and billing procedures.
  • Commitment to continuing education and professional development.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle for travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ophthalmology experience.

Work Environment:

Ophthalmic Consultants of the Capital Region is a busy private practice with 10 physicians and five office locations. Employees are frequently engaged in repetitive tasks and are primarily working in a medical office environment interacting with patients, physicians and colleagues. Employees are occasionally exposed to biological hazards including, but not limited to, blood borne pathogens and/or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions. The noise level is usually moderate.

Additional Information:

This position requires work to be performed on-site in one or more of our medical office locations. Ability to travel to and between our office locations is required. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Pay: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
