General Responsibilities
Performs routine clerical and technical work requiring computer skills and knowledge. Acts as clerical support to a department or school. Work is performed under regular supervision.
Essential Functions
- Performs a wide variety of clerical work related to the specialized function to which assigned
- Greets visitors, answers telephones and acts as and or serves as back-up receptionist requiring knowledge of rules, procedures, policies and activities
- Receives, sorts, and processes mail
- May type general correspondence, memorandums, reports, and other materials from rough draft
- Enters data, prepares and maintains files and records as assigned to include but not limited to student, accounting, payroll, personnel, etc
- Scans documents and files accordingly
- Operates standard office equipment and machinery
- Maintains confidential information
- Performs related duties as assigned
Education and Experience
Must be at least 18 years of age. High school diploma or equivalent or any combination of education and experience including or supplemented by courses in clerical experience.
Physical Requirements
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling, and arithmetic; ability to speak Spanish a plus. Ability to plan and carry out clerical operations involving transactions requiring effective accountability and accurate records; ability to read, understand and translate departmental rules, policies and regulations; ability to make arithmetic calculations and to establish and maintain effective filing systems; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; ability to understand and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
