Position: HS Complex Custodian
Work Year: 52 weeks
Hours: 40 hours per week
Monday through Friday 2:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Salary Range: Step One Through 6-30-26 $19.50 $2.00 position differential
After 7-1-26 $21.60 $2.00 position differential
Position Summary
Coordination and direction of custodial services at assigned site(s); ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations, and assisting in preparing facilities for classroom activities and building events.
Responsibilities include shift coverage if needed, response to buildings for emergencies, locking/unlocking as needed, assisting and training custodial staff, during shift response to district security and fire alarms or situations.
Essential Functions Including But Not Limited To
- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers, wash windows
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures
- Inspection and minor maintenance of playground equipment - as needed by grade level building
- Help with daily setup and teardown of lunchroom tables if needed. Remains present during lunch periods if providing shift coverage
- Assist with inventory and monitoring the use of cleaning chemicals and supplies
- Setup of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets
- Grounds clean up and snow removal as needed.
- Helps to maintain building and door security
- Assist the custodial staff with maintenance in the building(s) and development of a daily custodial plan
- Work collaboratively with building staff
- Create positive relationships with students, staff members, and all building stakeholders
- Help with the scheduling of personnel for scheduled events and activities
- Help with training staff members in the proper use of equipment and supplies
- Other duties assigned by the building administrator or Operations Supervisor.
Employment Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Thorough working knowledge of custodial work, including cleaning methods and materials and the use of custodial equipment equivalent to that gained in at least one year of experience or a combination of education and experience
- Previous experience working in sanitation, custodial, or maintenance positions preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the department team members, local travel in and around the school district, goal-setting ability, organizational skills, creative problem-solving ability, systematic planning, and the ability to plan for future needs
- Previous custodial experience is preferred but not required
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. The use of ladders, power equipment, and other hand tools is a requirement of this position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers.
