Position title: Therapist Intern

Reports to: Behavioral Health Director

Classification: Part time, non-exempt

Supervises others: Yes

Salary: $27.77 - $31.93

Opening Doors began in 1993 as a small refugee resettlement agency and today serves over 3,000 clients per year across our 5 program areas: Refugee Programs, Survivors of Trafficking Programs, Immigration Legal Services, Health Programs and Economic Prosperity Programs.

They will have the ability to work effectively in multi-cultural work environments, showing respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and will be passionate about Opening Doors’ mission.

Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Conduct individual therapy sessions and support group therapy.
  • Maintain clinical records, appointments and calendar.
  • Conduct clients’ assessments and create treatment plan.
  • Complete notes in a properly written and timely manner.
  • Collaborate and work with program team and other departments as needed to ensure quality care for clients and family.
  • Attend weekly supervision with behavioral health director.
  • Attending clinical and related training as needed.

Required Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required.

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in clinical social work, clinical professional counseling, or psychology.
  • Must be eligible for a license in the State of California as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or a licensed psychologist. Interns are encouraged to apply, and supervision hours are included.
  • Experience working with immigrants, refugees, and survivors of trafficking.
  • Bilingual in Dari, Pashto, Farsi, Urdu, Ukrainian, Russian, Spanish or another language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases.
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, techniques, trends and literature of clinical interviewing, casework, diagnosis and assessment, wellness and recovery, and client directed care.
  • Knowledge of techniques of evaluating and modifying behavior.
  • Experience engaging and collaborating effectively with individuals of various ages and socio-economic backgrounds, cultural groups and those with physical, behavioral and/or emotional challenges.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with clients and families.

Physical requirements and work environment: The following demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Therapy Intern position. While performing this job, the employee is required to sit often and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel and to manipulate keys on a keyboard, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, lift approximately 25 pounds on occasion, and to stoop, kneel, or squat, and drive on occasion. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
