Position Summary
The Corporate Controller serves as the right hand of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), ensuring the integrity of our financial reporting and leading our accounting operations. Reporting directly to the CFO, you'll oversee the complete accounting function, from daily transaction processing through the annual audit, while maintaining compliance with GAAP. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with team leadership, requiring someone who can both manage complex reconciliations and develop the capabilities of our accounting staff. As a key member of our finance leadership team, you'll provide critical insights that drive business decisions and support our continued growth across the organization.
Job Duties:
- Maintain Openforce's general ledger with accuracy and GAAP compliance, ensuring all transactions are properly recorded and classified
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely delivery of financial statements within 5 business days
- Oversee the annual audit process
- Review all balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Monitor and document internal controls
- Perform cash position analysis and forecasting to optimize cash management and liquidity
- Process and authorize electronic fund transfers and wire payments, ensuring proper approval controls
- Manage banking relationships and coordinate account management activities across all corporate accounts
- Maintain debt schedules with accurate interest calculations to ensure compliance
- Oversee credit card and corporate spending programs, ensuring policy adherence and proper documentation
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff (currently 4 team members), providing guidance on technical matters and career development, including performance evaluations, cross-training, and succession planning
- Design, implement, and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls that scale with business growth
- Review and approve payroll processing in Paycom, ensuring accuracy of wages, deductions, and tax withholdings
- Oversee accounts payable workflows and vendor payment cycles, maintaining strong vendor relationships
- Manage expense reporting policies and reimbursement processes, ensuring compliance and timely processing
- Collaborate on NetSuite optimization and system enhancement projects to improve efficiency and reporting capabilities
- Generate insurance reports, partner commission analyses, and ad hoc financial reporting as requested by leadership
- Provide financial analysis supporting business decisions, including variance analysis and trend identification; identify and communicate financial risks and opportunities to leadership proactively
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes with accurate historical data and insightful analysis
- Participate in special projects and strategic initiatives as assigned by the CFO
Key Competencies and Skills:
Technical Expertise
- Deep knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and regulatory compliance, with proven ability to apply these principles in complex scenarios
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software (NetSuite strongly preferred), Microsoft Suite with emphasis in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, financial modeling), and ERP systems
- Strong analytical skills to examine complex financial data, identify trends, draw meaningful conclusions, and assess financial risks using appropriate frameworks and professional skepticism proactively with a solutions-oriented mindset
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to supervise, coach, and develop accounting professionals while managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex financial concepts clearly to non-financial audiences and prepare professional reports and documentation
- Strong cross-functional collaboration and influence skills to gain buy-in, build partnerships across the organization, and lead process improvements or system implementations
Education and Other Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business with an emphasis in Accounting, or a related field, or work equivalence will be considered
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, strongly preferred
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience with increasing responsibility
- Minimum 2 years in a supervisory, senior accountant, or assistant controller role
