What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fractional Marketing Strategist position at Open Systems Technologies?
A small B2B SaaS company is looking for a Fractional Marketing Strategist to join their team in Asheville, NC.
Pay: $2-5K/month
This role is part-time, 5 hours per week.
MUST be based in Asheville, NC - This requires onsite work and there is no relocation.
Looking for a strategic marketing partner — someone who decides what gets made and why, sets the plan, and briefs the execution contractor. You'd be the small company version of a Head of Marketing. You'd own the "above the work" layer and work alongside an execution contractor who owns the "in the work" layer.
Responsibilities:
- Positioning and messaging: who they're for, what they sell, how they talk about it
- Quarterly marketing plan tied to sales motion, podcast release cadence, and CFMA events
- Content strategy: which podcast episodes to lean into, what themes to build series around, what not to bother with
- Briefing and reviewing execution contractor's output — raising the bar, not redoing the work
- Monthly one-page metrics review: what they're actually moving (pipeline, podcast reach, inbound quality), with recommendations
- Advising on brand voice, website messaging, sales collateral, event presence, and the podcast's own evolution
Qualifications:
- 6 years in B2B SaaS marketing; Ideally you've led or co-led marketing at a sub-$5M ARR company and know how to get leverage from very little budget
- Opinionated on positioning, ICP, and content pillars; You can walk me through three companies you've sharpened and what you changed
- Player-coach mindset: You mostly brief and review, but you'll occasionally roll up your sleeves (e.g., rewrite a homepage, draft a launch narrative)
- Construction, finance, accounting, or vertical-SaaS adjacency is a meaningful plus
- Comfortable working with a remote execution contractor in a different timezone: clear briefs, async feedback, respect for their hours
- Based in Asheville and up for a weekly in-person working session
Salary : $2,000 - $5,000
