Position Title: SHELTER COORDINATOR
Reports to: Program Manager
Pay Rate: $22.00 per hour / 32 - 40 hours per week
Schedule: Shift 1 - 5:00 pm - 1:30 am (Opening Coordinator)
Shift 2 - 1:00 am - 9:30 am (Closing Coordinator)
Must be available to work weeknights and weekends.
Location: Vineyard Resource Center, 450 N. Livermore Avenue, Livermore.

Position Summary:
The Shelter Coordinator will work with the Executive Director, Operations Director, Vineyard Program Coordinator, Production Kitchen staff, and volunteers. Responsible for direct client support in an emergency shelter environment, the Shelter Coordinator oversees shelter operations during the evening and overnight hours, creating a safe and healthy environment for individuals experiencing homelessness.
Job Duties:
- A commitment to professionalism that includes trustworthiness, teamwork, and honesty.
- Supervision and support of clients with dignity and respect.
- Engage in positive interactions and troubleshoot/de-escalate problems.
- Oversee shelter client activities, maintaining a positive environment.
- Encourage positive recreational activities such as television, movies, games, conversations, and reading.
- Support and assist clients with their needs as they arise (ex. questions, concerns, hygiene supplies, cleaning supplies, bedding, etc.).
- Maintain positive, supportive, and respectful guest relations.
- Process paperwork for client services.
- Supervise volunteers and activities during shifts.
- Document in shift notes at least once per shift and complete proper documentation; including but not limited to call logs, task checklists, incident reports, reasonable suspicion forms, and mandated reporter documentation/reporting duties.
- Maintain the safety and security of shelter property, and report concerns to Manager/On-Call or to the authorities.
- Complete Shelter Inventory and organizational/shelter upkeep duties as assigned.
- Supports Open Heart Refuge’s philosophy that all people deserve safe shelter
- Adherence to work rules, policies, and procedures.
- Perform basic maintenance as needed (ex. changing light bulbs, plunging toilets) and report any major maintenance issues to Day Staff.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the shelter by performing housekeeping tasks outlined in Task Lists (ex. sweeping, mopping, disinfecting).
- Data entry as needed.
- Attend regularly scheduled monthly meetings and trainings.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- 1 year of relevant experience working with unsheltered individuals
- Minimum of High School Diploma or GED
- Positive attitude and ability to work under pressure
- Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Requirements:
- Proof of negative TB test (re-test every 4 years)
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of clients
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to be compassionate and firm with clients
