Open Door is seeking a part-time Podiatrist for its Brewster and Mount Kisco sites working 2-3 days per week.
JOB SUMMARY
Provides podiatry services to patients in accordance with professional standards and practices of the specialty. Works independently.
DEPARTMENT OPERATIONS
- Maintains a safe environment of care for patients and staff by reporting any unsafe condition, equipment, or activities to the appropriate personnel
- Participates in multi-discipline team conferences and mandated service training programs
- Participates in the development and implementation of corrective action plans to address site, departmental, and operational deficiencies
- Identifies and reports equipment and information systems malfunctions with the MIS Department
- Checks and maintains adequate amount of equipment and supplies in accordance with Department budget and Center standards
- Maintains all clinical notes and additional patient-related documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR)
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assumes responsibility for comprehensive foot care for patients of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups
- Renders podiatry services to Open Door patients with appropriate specialist referrals and follow-up, as needed
- Consults with providers on Open Door patients with podiatry-related complaints
- Maintains responsibility for the education of all diabetics in proper diabetic foot care, with special concern for newly diagnosed diabetics
- Sets standards for podiatry care at Open Door in conjunction with the Medical Director of the site and Chief Medical Officer
- Renders care in compliance with the care standards. Participates in quality assurance programs, Joint Commission reviews, Patient-Centered Medical Home accreditation reviews, and medical records audit, as needed. Participate in the quarterly Peer Review process to assure that clinical and documentation standards are being met
- Recommends infectious disease control policies and reviews practices in conjunction with Medical Director of the site and Chief Medical Officer
- Participates in patient educational programs
- Performs other duties as assigned
COMMUNICATION
- Informs the site Practice Administrator of any management or operating problems that may affect quality and standards of patient services
- Demonstrates ability to function in a culturally sensitive manner within the organization’s philosophy and mission
- Fosters good communication between the Center and the community by returning patient telephone requests in a timely manner
- Ensures timely communication of Center and department information to department staff through individual, small group, or monthly department meetings. This includes memos and review of policies
PLANNING
- Attends staff meetings, as designated, to ascertain the Center's short and long-range plans, programs, and goals within areas of responsibility
- Collaborates with the operational clinical leadership to develop and implement department goals and objectives annually
- Participates in staff development programs, educational activities, seminars, and training opportunities
COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT
- Always maintains patient confidentiality as per Open Door policies and procedures
- Prepares and maintains documentation in compliance with JCAHO standards and applicable city, state, and federal laws
- Participates as a member of the Performance Improvement Committee
MARKETING
- Participates in health fairs and community outreach activities, as needed
- Interprets health center services and assists patient in making optimum use of the Center’s services
SUPERVISORY/REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- Supervised by Director of Operations. Consults with Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Graduate from accredited podiatry school
- Licensed to practice podiatry in New York State
EXPERIENCE
- Must possess experience in verbal and written communications, clinical and case management, department operations, public relations, and customer service skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Approximately 50% walking/standing and 50% sitting
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequent contact with patients, employees, and outside agencies.
- Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a health center environment.
- Requires adherence to Infection Control Standard Precautions
