About the Position
Open Air Company is looking for an experienced Shop Managerto oversee daily shop operations while providing hands-on CNC machine expertise.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader and strong problem solver who can manage production, operate and program CNC laser equipment, read technical drawings, and ensure jobs are completed accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and oversee CNC laser cutting machinery
- Set up, program, and troubleshoot CNC laser equipment
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD files, and specifications
- Prepare files and layouts for CNC laser cutting
- Manage daily shop workflow, scheduling, and production priorities
- Monitor material usage and minimize waste
- Inspect finished parts for accuracy and quality
- Troubleshoot machine and production issues
- Coordinate with engineering, production, and management
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment
- Train and supervise shop personnel as needed
- Assist with estimating, material requirements, and job planning
- Ensure production deadlines and quality standards are met
- Take ownership of day-to-day shop operations and production
- Perform other shop-management and technical duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Hands-on experience operating CNC machines is required
- CNC laser experience is required
- Previous experience in a machine shop, fabrication shop, or manufacturing environment
- Experience with production planning and shop organization
- Ability to manage multiple jobs and priorities
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Strong mechanical and technical troubleshooting skills
- Good communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of CAD/CAM software and CNC programming
- Experience managing a fabrication or manufacturing shop
- Experience with CNC laser cutting, press brakes, saws, or other fabrication equipment
- Experience with quoting, estimating, and material purchasing
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD files
- Knowledge of OSHA and shop safety requirements

CNC experience is a must.
Compensation
$70,000–$90,000 per year, depending on experience.
