What are the responsibilities and job description for the Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) position at OP Progressive Physical Therapy?
Job Overview
Occupational Therapist – Lymphedema Clinic
Starting Pay: $30–$34/hour, based on experience
We are seeking a motivated and goal-directed Occupational Therapist to join our busy and growing lymphedema clinic. This is a unique opportunity to combine your skills as an Occupational Therapist with specialized training in the evaluation and treatment of lymphedema and other lymphatic conditions.
About the Position:
Our clinic is a very busy, fast-paced environment, and we are looking for an OT who is self-motivated, organized, and able to manage a full caseload while providing compassionate, individualized patient care.
You will become part of a unique blend of Occupational Therapy and lymphedema specialty care, working directly with patients to improve function, decrease swelling, manage symptoms, and help them achieve meaningful goals.
Lymphedema experience is preferred, but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate. If you do not currently have lymphedema experience, you will receive training and mentorship in lymphedema treatment. The successful candidate must be committed to pursuing Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) certification.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive occupational therapy and lymphedema evaluations.
- Assess the lymphatic system and identify factors contributing to edema and impaired lymphatic flow.
- Develop individualized, goal-directed plans of care based on each patient's needs.
- Provide hands-on Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and other appropriate lymphedema treatment techniques.
- Implement complete decongestive therapy techniques, including education regarding compression, skin care, exercise, and self-management as appropriate.
- Monitor patient progress and modify the plan of care as needed.
- Educate patients and caregivers on techniques to manage their condition and promote long-term independence.
- Document evaluations, treatments, progress, and outcomes accurately and efficiently.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed to provide comprehensive patient care.
Understanding the Lymphatic System:
The lymphatic system plays an important role in maintaining fluid balance, supporting the immune system, and transporting excess fluid and cellular waste throughout the body. When lymphatic flow is impaired, fluid can accumulate in the tissues, resulting in lymphedema or other forms of edema.
As an Occupational Therapist specializing in lymphedema, you will learn to evaluate how these conditions affect the patient's body and daily function and develop an individualized plan of care. Treatment may include hands-on Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), compression management, therapeutic exercise, skin care, patient education, and self-management strategies.
What We're Looking For
- Current Occupational Therapist (OT) license in good standing.
- Strong interest in lymphedema and specialized rehabilitation.
- Willingness to pursue CLT certification.
- Self-motivated and goal-directed.
- Comfortable working in a busy, fast-paced clinic.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach.
- Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative member of the team.
- Lymphedema experience is a plus, but we will train the right candidate.
Why Join Us?
This position offers the opportunity to develop a specialized and highly valuable area of practice while using the full scope of your Occupational Therapy skills. You will receive training and support as you develop your expertise in lymphedema therapy and work toward becoming a Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT).
If you are an OT who enjoys helping patients make meaningful functional improvements, thrives in a busy environment, and is excited to develop a specialty in lymphedema therapy, we would love to hear from you!
