Overview

Onset DNA is seeking experienced, highly motivated, and professional Phlebotomists to join our team as 1099 Independent Contractors.

This is a performance-based opportunity, not a traditional hourly or salaried role.

As a DNA Specimen Collector, you will perform DNA collections (buccal swabs and blood draws) for a suite of legal and non-legal services including Paternity, Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity, Gender Reveal, and other genetic testing services in client settings such as homes, legal offices, clinics, and workplaces.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Engagement

• Engage in outreach, networking, and community events
• Build relationships with law firms, clinics, and local organizations
• Contribute to generating appointment opportunities through local engagement

Specimen Collection

• Perform blood draws and buccal swabs in accordance with established protocols
• Maintain integrity, accuracy, and legal admissibility of all samples
• Verify client identification prior to specimen collection
• Complete and maintain accurate chain-of-custody documentation

Client Care & Confidentiality

• Provide clear explanations of collection procedures
• Deliver compassionate, professional service in sensitive situations
• Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA

Compliance & Safety

• Follow universal precautions and use appropriate PPE
• Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and CDC infection control guidelines
• Safely and properly dispose of all biohazardous materials

Reporting & Equipment

• Provide timely updates as needed
• Ensure collection kits, supplies, and equipment are maintained and ready for use

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience performing venipuncture or specimen collection
• Prior DNA collection or chain-of-custody experience is a plus (training provided)
• Strong phlebotomy and client care skills
• Knowledge of biohazard disposal and universal precautions
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Self-motivated with strong communication skills
• Comfortable working independently
• Must be able to pass a background check

Bilingual Preferred

• English required
• Spanish-speaking candidates are strongly preferred due to high demand in our service areas

Transportation & Working Conditions

• Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and auto insurance required
• Travel within Houston metro and surrounding communities
• Flexible availability (including evenings and weekends as needed)
• PPE provided and required during all collections

Compensation

• Commission-based: Earn up to $70 per completed test
• No cap on earnings
• Income is based on activity, responsiveness, and initiative
