Occupational Health Nurse Responsibilities & Duties

Occupational Health Nurse Responsibilities & Duties
- Must have valid driver's license and clean driving record with access to dependable and insured transportation
- Flexible travel (up to 100-mile radius) and flexible work hours
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to keep accurate inventory of necessary supplies
- Ensures equipment is neat, clean and in good repair
- Fine attention to detail is require
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the successful collection of specimens according to established procedures using DOT/Non DOT guidelines
- Completes random and emergency observed urine collections of same sex clients as needed
- Collects specimens for drug screenings and other requested services
- Licensed individuals will be asked to cover Occupational Health project sites. (Out of state travel will occur)
- Provide direct patient care to employees, often in an occupational health clinic at a worksite. Assess and treat work-related injuries and illnesses, conduct pre-employment and periodic health examinations, administer immunizations and medications, and provide health counseling and education. Monitor the health status of employees and coordinate medical referrals when necessary.
- This position requires up to 12 on-call nights per month
- Responsible for completing Chain of Custody (COC) forms and Alcohol Testing Forms accurately
- Responsible for the safe and timely transporting of specimens, supplies, equipment and materials to the appropriate destination. (including 24-hour turnaround for paperwork)
- Maintain all appropriate collections logs, complete accuracy checks and monthly calibrations, maintain or complete DOT and BAT certifications
- Will perform Pulmonary Function Testing, Audiometric Testing, and Respirator Fit Testing in the field.
- Works independently to manage schedule on an as needed basis
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
- Standing for long periods of time
- Collections can occur as early as 6am (onsite for 6am) and evening collections occur as late as 11pm (scheduled. On call responsibilities are from 4pm-6am the next morning. Additionally, vacation or fill-in coverage at a jobsite could mean working up to 60-hours per week in some instances.
