Project Development Manager – Utility-Scale Renewable Energy

Location: Austin, Texas (hybrid or remote considered)
OnPeak Power is seeking a highly motivated Project Development Manager to lead the development and execution of utility-scale renewable energy projects. This role will be responsible for advancing projects from early-stage origination through construction readiness, playing a critical role in shaping and delivering OnPeak’s growing project portfolio.
This is a hands-on leadership position requiring strong project management capabilities, sound technical judgment, and entrepreneurial drive. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of complex initiatives, and develops creative solutions to move projects forward efficiently and strategically.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of utility-scale renewable energy projects from site identification through notice to proceed (NTP).
- Manage site selection, land acquisition and site control, entitlement, and environmental due diligence.
- Oversee permitting efforts at the federal, state, and local levels.
- Direct transmission interconnection strategy and coordinate utility and ISO/RTO processes.
- Coordinate preliminary engineering, technical studies, and consultant workstreams.
- Develop and maintain detailed project schedules, budgets, and risk assessments.
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate project risks to enhance value and increase probability of success.
- Support project origination, financing, and stakeholder engagement efforts.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external consultants, utilities, regulatory agencies, landowners, and community stakeholders to advance projects efficiently.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in renewable energy project development, power generation, or related infrastructure development.
- Demonstrated experience advancing utility-scale energy projects through permitting and interconnection.
- Strong understanding of transmission, environmental review, and land development processes.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and priorities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy, business, environmental science, or related field (advanced degree a plus).

Technical & Operational Skills
- Working knowledge of GIS and siting tools to support site screening, constraint mapping, and early-stage project evaluation.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for tracking budgets, schedules, and project economics, and PowerPoint for stakeholder presentations.
- Ability to maintain organized, structured digital project files and documentation systems.
- Comfortable managing project logistics, including scheduling meetings, coordinating consultants, and arranging travel to support active development efforts.
- Experience using project management and collaboration tools to track milestones, risks, and deliverables.
- Willingness to support both strategic and day-to-day project activities as needed to advance development milestones.
