The work of Water Systems Construction Engineer involves responsibility for applying engineering principles in the design and construction of water and/or wastewater treatment systems and their appurtenances. This is an important role at WEP, and the ideal candidate will have numerous responsibilities including, but not limited to:
- Oversees and/or participates in the design of new construction and renovation of water system components such as water mains, pumping stations, water services, fire hydrants, meter installations, etc.
- Oversees and/or participates in mapping, implementation and maintenance of the GIS System and it use and function of the system as it relates to water systems.
- Oversees and participates in specification writing, materials estimates, inspection, and cost projections as applied to the design, construction, and renovation of water and/or wastewater system components such as water mains, pumping stations, water services, fire hydrants and meter installations, repairs, replacements, upgrades or improvements of wastewater treatment, pumping and conveyance facilities, systems and equipment.
- Supervises or assists in the supervision of the operation of the water system including water transmission facilities, conduits or lines with the goal of maintaining an adequate water supply, pressure and purity. Supervises by assigning work, interpreting or advising with respect to procedures or methods to be used, and promoting efficiency through timely and thorough review.
- Designs proposed installation from maps, records or field surveys, lays out proposed installation in the field site, draws maps or plans of proposed installation, estimates costs of installation; issues contracts to proceed, draws as-built maps of installed materials, certifies payment and submits completion notices.

Minimum Qualifications
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a baccalaureate degree in engineering and two (2) years of professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, in civil engineering as applied to design, construction, and maintenance of water transmission and distribution systems and/or wastewater treatment systems and appurtenances; or,
(B) Six (6) years of paraprofessional or professional level work experience, or its part time equivalent, in engineering, two (2) years of which must have been in a professional level capacity in civil engineering as applied to design, construction, and maintenance of water transmission and distribution systems and/or wastewater treatment systems and appurtenances; or
(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B).
