The Learning Center Work Study Aide provides general support to students and staff of the Learning Center as well as the English Language Institute. This position is temporary and part-time (typically between 5-15 hours per week). Some work study aides in the Learning Center will be assigned to office roles, while others may tutor students, provided they meet the same academic requirements as our peer tutors.
JOB RESPONSIBLITIES
Greet students in the Learning Center in a friendly, courteous, welcoming manner.
Use a computer to follow a schedule of appointments.
Assist students in scheduling tutoring appointments.
Assist students in signing-in for tutoring appointments.
Answer phones and take messages.
Assist students in signing out laptops and calculators.
Maintain the confidentiality of students using the Learning Center Services.
Participate in periodic training and staff meetings.
Tutor students in course(s) that you have been approved to tutor (if academically eligible).
Perform related work as required.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM REQUIEREMENTS
Must have a valid FAFSA on file
Must have a financial need, as demonstrated by the FAFSA
Must be matriculated into a program
Attending at least half-time (6 credit hours)
Maintain satisfactory progress (SAP) towards the completion of their program
Current student in good standing at OCC
PREFERRED CANDIDATES
Have a written recommendation from a professor or college employee.
Have prior experience in customer service and working with the public.
Must enjoy working with diverse populations including those learning the English language.
Multilingual students are encouraged to apply.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES NEEDED
Clear Communication Skills: Able to talk to others and convey information effectively.
Empathy and Patience: Able to relate to others in a warm, calm and understanding manner.
Dependability: Able to manage your time well and show up on time for work as scheduled.

Pay Rate:
Starting rate of $16.00 for new Federal Work Studies.
Starting rate of $17.00 for returning Federal Work Studies
Hours of Operations: Monday-Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm
