The Career Specialist is responsible for providing students with career information, materials, programs, planning assistance, and opportunities related to career preparation and readiness. The Career Specialist will provide career exploration and planning support to facilitate goal development and achievement of milestones, leading to retention and completion. The Career Specialist ensures that specified goals and objectives are aligned with the departmental operational plan and the College's strategic plan.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Create and implement unique career programming to enhance initiatives within our diverse community and aligned with industry needs.
Create, develop, and provide career information, materials, programs, planning assistance, and opportunities related to career development.
Administer career assessments/inventory tools and facilitate targeted workshops and career exploration activities.
Collaborate with faculty and school specialists to provide career resources/activities through workshops and classroom presentations.
Support students through career coaching and proactive outreach.
Provide guidance and support to students seeking experiential learning opportunities.
Prepare career exploration and career pathway materials in accessible formats for integration in Schools' outreach, onboarding, and orientation.
Coordinate with school specialists to incorporate career planning and exploration activities into the calendar of activities and events.
Assist schools with new student orientation/welcome activities.
Deliver professional development on career path resources and exploration/preparation milestones to faculty, coaches, advisors, and staff.
Obtain, organize, file, and display career-related materials.
Establish partnerships with local employers to help students with their job search.
Assist with tracking student job and internship placement information.
Prepare periodic reports, maintain records on program activities, progress, status, or other special reports and statistical information as required.
Assist with other Career Services initiatives as assigned.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college, university, or foreign equivalency in a field appropriate to the position.
At least 2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas, preferably in higher education: career exploration, experiential education, career services, career counseling, college student support services, or academic advising.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from a regionally accredited college, university, or foreign equivalency in a field relevant to the position may be substituted for one year of experience.
Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Strong professional leadership and administrative skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to develop strong working relationships with internal departments and schools
Ability to effectively establish relationships and interact with diverse student populations
Ability to effectively create materials and present workshops on relevant career related topics

Additional Information:
Salary range is: $44,000 - $55,000, commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.
