Customer Service / Student Greeter

ONLC Training Centers
Sacramento, CA Part Time | Contractor
POSTED ON 7/7/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/3/2026

Hours: Varying weekdays, 6:45 am-7:15am

Compensation: $40.00 per visit

We’ve been in business since 1983—a long time. We have over 200 classroom locations and are known as a leader in the IT training industry. With that said, we are still a small company at heart. This is a firm where each person makes a difference and is integral to our success. Our classes are taught remotely, with the instructor teaching from their home office and up to 12 students attending from various locations around the country.

Purpose of this position: Our classes start at 7am in California. The building where our Sacramento remote classroom is located does not have staff there until 8am, so this person will meet our student(s) at the building at 6:45am.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet our student(s) at the office building at 6:45 am
  • Show them where the rest rooms, coffee, etc. are located
  • Show them to the small classroom where they will connect to their class
  • Make sure they have the correct course materials
  • Make sure the student is connected to both the instructor presentation and the computer where they will do their hands on exercises
  • Once any questions are answered, reassure the student that the receptionist will arrive at 8am and they should let the instructor know if they have additional questions or need anything.
  • That's it! A typical visit takes 30 minutes.

Requirements:

1) Being reliable and dependable. When you think about it, if the person in this position is late or doesn't show up, our student isn't getting into the building and isn't taking the class they registered, paid and showed up for. The Student Greeter has to be reliable.

2) Be very nice and polite. The vast majority of our students are friendly and easy going. Sometimes when students are attending IT training, they may have a new manager that is requiring it, a new position that they are unsure of, or may have lost their job and are trying to improve their skills. They may be anxious about the class. Also, it's super early! Any of these issues can occasionally cause a student to be really quiet, grumpy, or stressed out. The person in this position, needs to be able to remain friendly, calm and empathetic.

3) Ability to follow directions and ask for help. We give clear directions on what to look for and do to make the connections to the class. Most of the time, things go off without a hitch. When there is a problem, our IT folks are a call or chat away. No IT skills are required for this position, although someone who is computer savvy is appreciated. Most of all, we need someone who remains calm, listens carefully, can follow instructions, and asks questions when they don't understand something.

4) Good communication skills.

5) Casual dress is ok, but keep it appropriate. Leave the sweats, workout wear and clothes with holes or stains at home. Nice jeans and a sweater are fine.

6) Reliable transportation.

This works best when this occasional, early morning job fits with the person's other responsibilities. Examples, college students who do this for extra money before class. People whose other employment is nearby, so they can greet our student(s) on the way to work. When it's a good fit and not taking the person too far out of their way, it's a really great source of extra income.
