What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Lines Producer position at Onetrust Risk Management & Insurance?
We are hiring one commercial lines producer, and we are deliberately hiring from the personal lines bench rather than a seasoned commercial producer with a book. We would rather train coverage than train hunger.
About OneTrust Risk Management & Insurance
Onetrust is an independent agency serving contractors, retail, auto service, light manufacturing, personal lines and others across North and South Carolina. We directly represent many insurance carriers including Travelers, Liberty Mutual, Progressive, Westfield and many others.
Our growth has provided an opportunity to expand our sales force.
What success looks like in year one
will also have taken the accounts we hand you at the start, rounded them out, and turned them into a referral source. Small commercial clients know other small commercial clients — the seed book is your first prospecting list, not just your first paycheck. You will not be a finished commercial producer at month twelve — nobody is. You will be past the hardest part.

What you will do
• Generate your own business. Prospect local small and mid-size commercial risks — calls, drop-ins, referrals, centers of influence, networking. This is the core of the job, not a portion of it.
• Own the full sales cycle. Qualify the risk, gather exposures and loss history, work with our team on market selection and submissions, present the proposal, and bind.
• Service the accounts you write, with support from our account management team on certificates, endorsements and renewals. You will stay close to your clients rather than handing them off.
• Work our carrier and wholesale relationships — learn appetites, build credibility with underwriters, and know where a risk actually fits before you market it.
• Keep your pipeline current in Hawksoft and Salesforce, and show up to a weekly one-on-one with real numbers.
What we are looking for
Required
• Active P&C license, or the ability to obtain one before your start date
• Two or more years in insurance — personal lines service, personal lines sales, or a captive/direct-writer sales seat
• Evidence that you have actually sold something. Cross-sells you initiated, referrals you asked for, quotes you chased down. Not "I supported the sales process."
• Willingness to start conversations with people who did not ask to hear from you
• Reliable transportation and comfort with local travel to client sites
Preferred, but we will teach it
• Any commercial lines exposure — even quoting a BOP or handling COIs
• CISR, CIC, or coursework in progress
• Experience at a captive agency or direct writer, where you carried a quota
• Agency management system experience (Applied Epic, AMS360, EZLynx, HawkSoft)
• Roots in the Gaston County business community
What this job is not
We would rather lose you here than at month eight.
• It is not a big inherited book. You will start with a small set of existing accounts to service, learn on, and grow from. Everything past that, you build. The seed is a floor under your income and a training ground, not a career
• It is not a service role with a sales title. If the parts of your current job you like best are the renewals and the relationships, and the part you would happily skip is the asking, this will make you miserable.
• It is not commercial lines on easy mode. Contractors, trucking, habitational and manufacturing risks are technical. You will study. There is a designation path and we will pay for it, but you have to do the reading.
What we will do is train you, ride along with you, hand you our carrier relationships, and give you a base salary while you learn. What you bring is the willingness to make the eleventh call after ten people said no.
Compensation and support
• Base salary during the ramp, stepping down over 24 months as commission takes over.
• A small starting book of personal & commercial premium, so you have commission income from month one while you build
• Uncapped commission on new business, with renewal commission on the accounts you write for as long as they stay on the books
• Support that is real: account management help on service work, marketing support on submissions, and a weekly one-on-one with agency owner.
How to apply
Skip the cover letter. Instead, tell us in a few sentences about one thing you sold, cross-sold, or saved that nobody asked you to.
