POSITION SUMMARY
The Referral Coordinator manages and coordinates outside specialty appointments requested
by providers to ensure continued continuity of patient care in a timely and professionally manner; maintains positive relationships for collaboration with area hospitals, ancillary departments, specialty physicians, and most importantly patients.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Manages and coordinates all medical referrals.
2. Communicates directly with patients, building rapport and giving and receiving information.
3. Utilizes the computer system/EHR according to departmental protocols to include accurate
data entry and retrieval of information for reporting purposes.
4. Receives inquiries and requests, and performs research and responds accordingly.
5. Performs data collection and data entry, following through and documenting on
interactions.
6. Processes insurance referrals and maintains detailed documentation on each insurance
authorization.
7. Maintains close communications with key insurance companies, to ensure that referrals
and prior authorizations are completed and followed up per requirements.
8. Solves problems independently or within a team environment.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
