 Overall Responsibility:

This position coordinates and manages all patient care aspects of departmental operations for the following departments within OneCore Health: Inpatient, Pre Admit, ER and Case Management. Consults with staff, physicians, and other departments on nursing problems and interpretation of OneCore Health’s policies and procedures to ensure that patient needs are met.  Responsible for staffing, orientation, clinical education, competency evaluation, and policies and procedures related to the identified clinical areas. 

Key tasks and responsibilities (essential functions)

  1. Ensures compliance with regulatory boards/state, including, but not limited to Medicare, OSHA, and the State Health Department in conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer.
  2. Ensures performance of nursing functions in all areas is according to policy and procedure.
  3. Coordinates functions of the departments including supervision of personnel, evaluations, and orientation of new employees and current employees to new procedures.
  4. Fosters growth and development of clinical skills and adherence to OneCore’s mission, vision, and core values in team members.
  5. Accurately identifies and expeditiously resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services.
  6. Develops standards of care and performance for services provided in conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer and implement a mechanism for the ongoing evaluation and improvement of performance standards.
  7. Actively participates in the Safety Committee, Committee of the Whole, Peer Review Committee, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and other designated committees as assigned. Distributes information to clinical staff from each of these committees to ensure a smooth flow of information.
  8. Actively promotes an optimistic image of OCH with patients, vendors, physicians, and other customers within the community.
  9. Maintains expertise with computer-based programs, and utilizes reports to improve performance and ensures full utilization of system by staff.
  10. Assesses own performance using insight and constructive feedback to set goals to enrich knowledge and skills required to perform roles.
  11. Maintains a positive work environment for staff and physicians which promotes team efforts.
  12. Establishes, updates, and/or creates forms and other necessary documentation to submit for approval in collaboration with the nursing administration department that is conducive to the needs of the hospital.
  13. Assists in the coordination of clinical issues, recommendations and implementation of improvement plans and/or preventive measures to reduce occurrences and risks.
  14. Ensures adequate staffing in order to achieve the department’s function and purpose.
  15. Adheres to established departmental operation and salary budgets, and provides explanations of budget variances, as requested.
  16. Ensures performance evaluations are current and reviewed by employees during an annual performance improvement evaluation.
  17. Analyzes nursing care provided in the departments related to the established standards of care.
  18. Knowledgeable of proper handling of narcotics, sign-out and return, according to the hospital policies and DEA guidelines.
  19. Follows up/investigates all variances within the established departments inclusive of narcotic administration/counting, medication errors, patient complaints, deviation to standards of care, etc. Documents immediate follow-up actions and identifies action plan to minimize risk of incidents from reoccurrence.
  20. Demonstrates continued competence in assessing, treating, and caring for individuals based upon age-specific needs utilizing a developmental perspective.
  21. Demonstrates appropriate knowledge and competence of designated skills identified for the position.
  22. Interacts with all patients, families, visitors, and fellow employees in a manner to ensure a positive and professional environment.
  23. Assesses the performance of assigned new hires and orientees including entry-level nurses, and nursing care assistants; provides ongoing feedback and coaching.
  24. Completes and submits assigned documentation/reports as directed by nursing leadership.
  25. Plan, implement, and maintain minutes of monthly staff meetings for clinical staff to address potential problems, unusual events/occurrences, and changes in any regulatory guidelines or hospital policies that require implementation to ensure closed-loop communication.
  26. Understand and communicate potential clinical equipment or supply issues to appropriate team members (Materials, Safety Officer, Biomed, Sterile Processing, etc).
  27. Participates in rotation of administrative on-call coverage by providing assistance via phone or on-site as warranted.
  28. Collaborates with different departments (radiology, risk management, OR, pre-op, PACU scheduling, registration) to resolve issues and improve workflow processes throughout the department.
  29. Coordinates, facilitates, participates, and directs departmental projects with follow-through and appropriate follow-up.
  30. Plan and assist with the coordination of unit staff schedules, ensuring the department is adequately staffed at all times. Providing coverage as indicated.
  31. May serve in the role of Pre-Operative Nurse, PACU Nurse Phase II, Registered Nurse (Inpatient), PACU RN, ER Nurse or any other RN position for which qualified.
  32. Other projects and duties as directed by the Chief Nursing Officer

 

 

 

Qualifications:

Licensure and Certification:  Licensed as an RN in the state of Oklahoma.

 

Experience required:  BSN or Master’s degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.  Demonstrated leadership in similar positions will be considered in lieu of master’s degree.  2 – 5 years of management experience preferred.

Environmental and physical requirements - The employee works in a temperature controlled environment.  There is a potential for contact with chemicals, blood borne pathogens, and exposure to infectious disease.  Employees should be able to lift 50 pounds using proper lifting technique several times during their shift.
