Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Medical Interpreter to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and patients who speak different languages. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology and be able to interpret and translate effectively in various healthcare settings. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive accurate information regarding their medical care while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
Duties
- Provide accurate interpretation services during patient consultations, examinations, and treatments.
- Translate medical documents, including patient records and consent forms, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Assist healthcare professionals in understanding patient concerns and medical histories by interpreting spoken language.
- Review documentation for accuracy and compliance with relevant regulations, including HIPAA.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Collaborate with social workers and child protective services when necessary to support patient needs.
- Utilize American Sign Language for communication with hearing-impaired patients when required.
- Stay updated on medical terminology and practices to ensure effective communication.
Requirements
- Proficiency in at least two languages, including English; bilingual candidates are preferred.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and experience with medical records.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and the importance of confidentiality in healthcare settings.
- Experience in social work or related fields is a plus.
- Ability to interpret complex medical information accurately and clearly.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Certification as a Medical Interpreter or equivalent training is preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience in documentation review is advantageous.
