Role Description The Machinist role is a full-time, on-site position based in Chicago. In this role, the machinist sets up, operates, and monitors manual and CNC machines to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and instruction. Typical responsibilities include selecting appropriate tools, measuring materials and finished parts, adjusting machine settings, and performing basic maintenance to ensure optimal operation. The machinist inspects parts for accuracy and quality and documents production activities. The role requires adherence to safety, customer prints/drawings, and housekeeping standards.
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and work instructions, and apply basic math and measurement skills.
- Experience operating manual and/or CNC machines, including setup, tooling selection, and adjustment of machine parameters.
- Skill in using precision measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection equipment.
- Understanding of manufacturing safety practices, shop housekeeping standards, and safe handling of tools and materials.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to identify and correct machining and quality issues.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and other machinists.
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a machinist apprenticeship, technical training, or relevant vocational program is beneficial.
- Prior experience in a machining, metalworking, or manufacturing environment is preferred but not strictly required for all levels.
