Staff Accountant Job Description
This individual will fill a key role within the accounting team that will support various aspects of finance and accounting for the company, including: AP, AR, billing, account reconciliation, and daily retail operation monitoring and processing. The successful candidate will need to be effective and experienced in the general accounting function and have strong analytical skills. Overview
Perform all aspects of billing and account reconciliation for large wholesale fuel supplier and convenience store retailer.
- Reconcile bills of lading from vendors
- Review and reconcile pricing and contracts from vendors
- Enter billing information into Fuel Smart
- Send invoices and statements to customers
- Reconcile AR from customers and vendors
- Process EFT drafts
- Review invoices for accuracy and record expenses into proper departments
- Code invoices and process payments according to accounts payable schedule
- Resolve past due invoices, billing errors, and disputes from customers and vendors
- Daily monitoring of retail locations paperwork from computerized software
- Retail and operational reconciliations of credit cards, loyalty programs, lottery, etc.
- Assist in setting up departments, new items, promotions, and pricing for products at retail locations using back office software
- Review and research cash over/short variances
- Reviews and provide reports on department inventory, sales, etc.
- Enter and report data using Excel spreadsheets
- Ensure month end processes are completed accurately and meets specified deadlines
- Assists with financial reporting as necessary
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and generally accepted accounting principles
- Strong knowledge of accounting techniques and procedures
- Advanced knowledge and use of Excel is required, as well as conceptual understanding of using charts, pivot tables, and formulas
- Experience in AP/AR and Invoicing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Great time management skills to meet deadlines

- Detail oriented and organized
- Self-starter who is capable of working independently and collaborates well with teammates
- Flexible to step into additional roles as needed
- Previous experience with POS, retail, and/or distribution software is preferred
- Prior experience with Fuel Smart helpful
- Prior experience with Great Plains helpful
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting
- A minimum of 2 years recent experience in the field of Accounting
