This week I saw my first flowers popping out of the dirt. It still looks like winter outside, but you can tell that change is imminent. There will be no better place to be in a few weeks than a botanic garden. Flowers will be blooming, birds will be chirping, and spring will be in the air. I’ll probably visit the Chicago Botanic Garden (my wife and I like it there because it’s where we got married), but those in the New York City area might want to check out the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It’s a non-profit and “an urban botanic garden that connects people to the world of plants, fostering delight and curiosity while inspiring an appreciation and sense of stewardship of the environment.”
April Shower Bring May Flowers
If you can, you should visit Brooklyn Botanic Garden in the next few months. Visiting their website is a poor substitute. But for now, you should read up on the garden’s history. They’ve been around for more than a century, and they continue to aim to inspire “people of all ages through the conservation, display, and enjoyment of plants; with educational programs that emphasize learning by doing; and with research focused on understanding and conserving regional plants and plant communities.” If you’d like to help them do that, visit Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s Jobs page. Right now they’re looking for an Education Greenhouse Interim Seasonal Coordinator and a Special Events and Individual Giving Associate/Clerical Associate IV.
