What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Optic Splicer — Ribbon / OTDR — 100% Travel position at ONE-Comm?
ONE-Comm is hiring experienced fiber optic splicers for hyperscale data center work. The overwhelming majority of this job is inside the facility — high-count ribbon splicing, testing, and turn-up on new-build data center fiber plant. This is hands-on splicing, not a helper role and not a stepping stone. If you can walk onto a job, read the prints, and make clean, tested splices without hand-holding, we should talk.
What you'll do:
- High-count ribbon and single-fiber splicing on new-build and active data center systems
- OTDR and loss testing, with results documented
- Closure, cassette, and fiber-management prep and build-out
- Troubleshoot faults and chase down the problems that stump other crews
- Read and interpret splice prints and schematics
- Occasional aerial (bucket truck) and OSP work when a job calls for it — the exception, not the norm
What you need:
- Proven splicing experience — ribbon fiber specifically
- Fluent with OTDR interpretation and loss testing
- Real troubleshooting ability, not just following a checklist
- Comfortable reading schematics and splice diagrams
- Valid driver's license and a clean enough record to operate company vehicles
- Willing to travel 100% and work a 2-weeks-on / 1-week-off rotation
Pay: Hybrid hourly piecework. There's a guaranteed hourly floor so you're never working for free, and above it your production drives your check. A splicer who shows up and produces can expect $8,000 per month gross at minimum — and on active jobs, strong producers earn well past that. Your output sets your ceiling, not us. Lodging, per diem, and travel are covered when you're on the road.
