One City Schools
Madison, WI Full Time
POSTED ON 11/19/2025 CLOSED ON 12/18/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mathematics Teacher position at One City Schools?

Teach with Purpose. Lead with Joy. Transform What’s Possible.

At One City Schools, we believe children, and the adults who serve them, deserve an environment where excellence and belonging thrive side by side.

This work is joyful and demanding and calls to the best of our teaching craft and the fullness of our hearts. Success here means growing alongside our scholars by embracing structure, curiosity, and persistence every day.

About the Role

As a K-8 Math Specialist, you’ll create classrooms where children feel safe, seen, and challenged. Grounded in The One City Way and the EL Education framework, you’ll design rich, project-based learning experiences that nurture curiosity, character, and academic growth.

At One City you’ll live the spirit of Crew, which activates our belief that we are all responsible for each other’s success. You’ll open and close each day in community, build rituals that strengthen belonging, and help scholars develop the social and emotional skills that make learning joyful and collective.

You’ll be part of a highly collaborative grade-level team and contribute to a school culture that views character as teachable, feedback as essential, and joy as non-negotiable.

What You’ll Do

As a Math Specialist, you will serve as a lead teacher and coach who strengthens math learning and instructional excellence across grades K–8.

A few key responsibilities include:

  • Modeling strong, inquiry-based math instruction that builds scholar confidence and conceptual understanding.
  • Collaborating with principals and the Chief Academic Officer on lesson planning, pacing, and standards alignment.
  • Working with building leaders to help teachers to improve math instruction through observations, feedback, and professional learning.
  • Using data to identify trends, develop interventions, and support teachers in planning for Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 instruction.
  • Supporting curriculum alignment, adoption, and continuous improvement across both campuses.
  • Building family engagement around mathematical learning and helping scholars experience joy, curiosity, and growth.

Who You Are (Ideal Candidate Description)

Middle School Math Specialist

You are a highly skilled math educator who brings a blend of content expertise, instructional leadership, and a love for children. You believe every scholar can grow in mathematics and that confidence is just as important as proficiency.

You might be a great fit for this role if you:

  • Bring a deep understanding of K–8 math content and know how to make it accessible, engaging, and joyful.
  • Thrive in a collaborative teaching environment where coaching, feedback, and shared problem solving are part of the daily rhythm.
  • Use data as a tool for insight rather than evaluation, and see it as a way to strengthen instructional decisions.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with scholars and teachers and can mentor others toward excellence.
  • Believe in a two-generation model of scholar success and designing learning for diverse learners and learning profiles.
  • Love being part of a school community where character, relationships, and academic rigor work together.
